Portraits, sketches, drawings, quotations, writings, and films, in addition to his major works, will celebrate the pioneering career of an exceptional talent.
About the exhibition
This exhibition is dedicated to the great Togolese designer Kossi Aguessy and specially commissioned for the opening of the Palais de Lomé.
This will be the first solo exhibition for Kossi Aguessy in Africa. This inspirational homage to a great artist is a fitting way to mark the inauguration of the first permanent space dedicated to contemporary design in West Africa.
He was the first African designer to be honoured with a special section at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. His work features in the permanent collections of many international museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA). He was also featured in the ground-breaking exhibition Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design organised by the Vitra Design Museum and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
The exhibition also toured to the Netherlands (Kunsthal Rotterdam), and the USA (High Museum of Art in Atlanta et Blanton Museum of Art in Austin).
